Polly Clifford of Los Gatos announces the engagement of her daughter, Rochelle, to Jason Merrick, son of Rudy J. and Mary Merrick of Walnut Creek. Rochelle is also the daughter of the late Bradley Clifford.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Los Gatos High School and the University of San Francisco. She is employed by Genentech in South San Francisco.

Her fiancé is a graduate of Monte Vista High School, Danville, and the University of San Francisco. He is a network administrator at Space Systems Loral in Palo Alto.

They plan a May 1998 wedding.
