When crews tore up old asphalt, they discovered they'd need to replace twice as much of the roadbed as they'd planned for, engineering inspector George Garcia said. The job was scheduled to be completed last week. Youth citizens honored at Oct. 18 ceremony Three Los Gatos youth will be honored as youth Citizens of the Year by the Los Gatos Youth Park board of directors on Saturday, Oct. 18: Angel Cheng and Annita Bruna of Los Gatos High School and Adam Bortolussi of Fisher Middle School. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the park located behind Los Gatos High School, across from the tennis courts. Police, firefighters and Disaster Aid Response Team volunteers will be on hand. There will be samplings of Boy Scout cooking, hiking and a display of 4-H animals. Judges in this year's event included Assistant Town Manager Jim Piper, former town librarian Peggy Murray and Los Gatos Weekly-Times advertising executive Nanci Rivers. State home prices continue to rise The California Association of Realtors reported Sept. 26 that the number of home sales and the price of single-family homes are rising faster in California than elsewhere in the nation. Data from the Los Angeles-based trade association show that the number of closed-escrow sales of homes in the state in August was the highest since 1989, and up 14 percent from the number of sales in August 1996.
