The Prowler
Everyone deserves a second chance, right? The town of Los Gatos Community Services Department certainly thinks so, and to that end is sponsoring an event at the Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St., called the Second Chance Exchange. Set for Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., it's a chance for folks to barter, trade and swap all the thingamajigs that have been taking up space in their attics, basements, closets or garages.
There's only a few rules: no monetary transactions; no clothing or shoes; all items must fit in a standard-size grocery bag; and if you bring something, you have to take something! Cell phones with batteries are also being accepted for emergency use by members of the Los Gatos Senior Program. The event is part of Second Chance Week, a public awareness campaign that promotes reuse, repair and recycling. For more info, call 408.399.5796 or 408.354.6820.
Speaking of good causes, this ever-hungry cat hears that the field hockey team at Los Gatos High School is holding a steak dinner fundraiser on Oct. 12 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the patio room adjacent to the small gym. For $15, eaters get salad, steak, beans, dessert, soda and coffee. Tickets are available from team players or at the door.
Yet another good cause, especially during these troubled times, is Friends of Our Troops, a program that lets kids, adults, schools and organized groups correspond with members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Letters are welcome anytime, but especially during the upcoming Christmas 2001 Military Mail campaign. To learn more, visit www.troopfanmail.net on the Internet, or write P.O. Box 65408, Fayetteville, N.C. 28306.
