What a difference a year makes.
In 1999, the Los Gatos frosh-soph football team pulled out a one-point, last-minute victory over Mountain View when the two clubs met in a nonleague game.
Well, the young Wildcats and Spartans met in another nonleague game last Friday. But it wasn't that close--in fact, it wasn't close at all.
The Cats rolled to a 56-7 victory over the Spartans after opening up a commanding 42-7 lead before the half.
"We knew we couldn't let down [after last year] and our guys came ready to play," said Gatos coach Dale Gustafson. "It was obvious from the beginning that our lines were going to dominate the game."
And dominate they did.
"They opened huge holes," said Gustafson, who club rolled up 280 yards of total offense in the first half.
Brian Miguel raced 32 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game for Los Gatos, and the Cats just continued to roll.
Miguel and Patrick Michaelson finished the night with three touchdowns apiece. Miguel led the ground attack with eight carries for 97 yards and Michaelson picked up 90 yards on 11 tries. Dennis Freeman supported with 51 yards on four attempts, and Derek Tam had a 37-yard run for the Cats. Carlos Bravo also ran for a touchdown for LG.
Quarterback Alex Rollins was five of five for 54 yards passing in the first half alone, hitting Miguel and tight end Scott Drew with TD tosses.
