'Yo-No-Bi' exhibit showcases local artists

The Prowler

    Community Concert series begins

For the first concert of its 1999-2000 season, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Concert Association will present the Boston Brass on Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Los Gatos, 19 High School Court.

The Boston Brass is a multifaceted, all-male quintet known for its virtuoso arrangements of music as varied as baroque, opera, pop and jazz. They also sing together in barbershop harmonies. The members, who currently are artists-in-residence at Boston College, use a personal approach to their concerts that really gets their audiences in the swing of things.

Before the Boston Brass concert and during intermission, local artists from the Mountain Art Guild will have a show in the church lobby of paintings in various media as well as sculptures and quilt work.

The other three LG-SCCA concerts are the eclectic Ronnie Kole on piano, percussion and bass on Jan. 16; a Civil War program by Robert Trentham on Feb. 20 featuring singing, speaking and costumes; and coloratura soprano Erie Mills on May 7.

Like Boston Brass, the Robert Trentham program will take place at the Methodist Church. The other two concerts will be held across the way at Los Gatos High School's Prentiss Brown Auditorium, 20 High School Court. Season tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for senior citizens, $10 for students and $85 for the family plan, which admits two adults and any number of students. Individual tickets are also available.
