    Schonig leads Tigers to victory

Jake Schonig went 40 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown to give the Los Gatos Tigers a thrilling 20-18 Pop Warner League football win over the Cambrian Valley Falcons.

The Tigers had trailed the Falcons 12-0 in the third period in the junior peewee division game, but the Tigers battled back with three second-half touchdowns to clinch the win.

A 15-yard kickoff return by Kevin Kephart set up a 55-yard TD run by Schonig to get the Tigers on the scoreboard. Nick Kalpin ran in for the extra point.

Quarterback Jeffrey Pepper took a keeper 30 yards for a touchdown before Schonig scored the game winner.

Kalpin, Nick Smith and Kellan Barker were defensive leaders for the winners, and Schonig and Pepper came up with key hits to stop Cambrian on a couple of extra-point attempts.

The Tigers had threatened late in the first half when Matthew McCarty and Alex Estrada ran for back-to-back first downs, but the half ended before they could move in for a score.

The Tigers are now 3-2 for the year.

    Panthers win

A 35-yard run by Cameron Compton set up Stefan Fowler for a 4-yard touchdown run to lead the Los Gatos Panthers to a tight 6-0 win over Cambrian Valley in the peewee division.

Jeffrey West had three interceptions as the Panthers posted their four shutout in five games, pushing their season record to 3-1-1.

    Other scores

In other games, the Wildcats (1-4) blanked Cambrian Valley 19-0, the Cougars (1-4) were shut out 22-0 by Cambrian, the Bobcats (0-5) lost 45-6 to Morgan Hill and the Jaguars (0-5) were whitewashed 40-0 by Morgan Hill.
