Los Gatos girls get fourth in Valley Christian polo tourney

Goalie Emily Jeffers made all-tourney

By Dick Sparrer

The Los Gatos girls' water polo team found the going a little rough in the Valley Christian Fall Classic last weekend.

But the Gatos girls calmed those waters enough to reach the third-place game in the rugged east division of the tournament.

The Wildcats lost 10-1 to Sacred Heart Prep but battled back to whip Carmel 11-1 to get into the third-place game against Gunn.

The Cats fell 9-3 to the Titans to finish fourth in the division. Senior Lindsay Norcott tossed in two goals for the Wildcats, and junior Alix Eastman added one.

Junior goalie Emily Jeffers was named to the all-tournament team after posting a solid effort for the Wildcats.

A week earlier, the Cats had lost a 7-6 heartbreaker to Lynbrook in the opener for each team in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Eastman led the Cats with three goals. Senior Lisa Cristol supported with two goals for Gatos and Norcott added one.

Later that week, Los Gatos lost 8-3 to St. Francis in the McDonald Tournament.

Cats tame 'Horns

The Los Gatos girls' field hockey team knocked off Leigh 5-1 last week in a match in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The Cats are now 2-0 in the division and 8-1 for the year. The Longhorns slipped to 1-1 in league play and to 4-2-1 for the season.

Gatos jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half, then outscored the 'Horns 2-1 in the second half to claim the victory.

Seniors Alison Carabetta and Courtney Radonich knocked home two goals apiece to lead the Cats to the win. Junior Jessica Eagen added a goal for the winners.

Senior Iming Lin had two assists for the Wildcats and sophomore Anita Reyes and senior Juli Fomenko added one each.

Netters lose two

Robin Green won twice at No. 3 singles, but the Los Gatos girls tennis team dropped two De Anza Division decisions last week.

The Wildcats lost 6-1 to St. Francis despite a 6-3, 7-5 win by Green at No. 3 singles.

Gatos lost 4-3 to Los Altos later in the week. Green won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Gianne Cardinale won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4.

The team of Kristi Kalman and Stacey Dodge nailed a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
