The West Valley College theater presents a provocative mystery

Audiences will have plenty of time to ponder "whodunit" during The Rimers of Eldritch, a Midwest murder mystery being performed Oct. 17-26 at the West Valley College Theater, located at 14000 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga.

Written by playwright Lanford Wilson, the play is subtitled "Where the Wages of Sin Lead to Death." The storyline concerns the tiny Midwestern town of Eldritch and its search for answers surrounding a man's murder. Not coincidentally, the somewhat archaic adjective "eldritch" means eerie, spooky or uncanny.

The residents of Eldritch, a Bible Belt town, live according to a God-fearing mentality and impose this strict code on all inhabitants. The actors present the play in a format that uses bits of action and snippets of dialogue to dart back and forth from the past to the present. This adult-oriented play includes such characters as loveless gossips, sex-hungry boys, compassionless preachers and car-conscious girls.

Tickets are $7 each and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The box office opens 45 minutes before each performance. For specific performance times, call 741-2058.
