Council allocates funds for boulevard studies

Two years after Los Gatos Boulevard merchants and residents met to form a vision for the boulevard, their plan is nearly ready for submission to the Planning Commission and Town Council.

But before the plan can be accepted or denied, the town has to undertake state-mandated environmental and engineering studies, including traffic studies. The Town Council on Oct. 7 allocated $10,000 for that stage of the report.

The General Plan Committee, which has spearheaded the boulevard plan, expects to come back, probably in December, to ask the council for approximately $5,000 for graphic representations and models of plans.

"I don't think we're really done until we go that last step and have some visual representation," Councilmember Linda Lubeck said.

The boulevard plan was engineered to encourage business along the boulevard while maintaining an attractive ambiance appropriate to the town's character. The plan includes nodes and pedestrian-friendly clusters of businesses and small parks.

Public hearings will be announced at a later date.
