Dennis Skaggs, director of operations for Camera Cinemas, runs the movie projector during a recent free showing of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' at Oak Meadow Park in Los Gatos. The screening was part of the Los Gatos Film Festival, which organizers say will become an annual event. An estimated 800 to 1,000 members of the community attended the outside screening Oct. 5. The park event was followed by screenings of three new films at Los Gatos Cinema on Oct. 6. Los Gatos Mayor Joe Pirzynski said that he and the other organizers of the event were 'amazed' by the number of people who had shown up. Since they wanted to keep the festival as a strictly Los Gatos event, no advertising had been done outside of the community. 'People want to come together as a community and do small-town events,' Pirzynski said. This year's festival was put together by a steering committee that includes members of various town committees, Pirzynski and Jack NyBlom and Jim Zuur, co-owners of Los Gatos Cinema. The group is already discussing plans for next year's festival, slated for late summer 2002.
