Art Docents sponsor guest artists, ArtWalk fundraiser

The Art Docents of Los Gatos Inc. has a full plate of art events planned for October. First, the nonprofit group is sponsoring the Guest Artist program--visits by two Bay Area artists to three local elementary schools. It is also coordinating a new event called ArtWalk 2000.

San Jose-based ceramist Wes Burns, who uses a potter's wheel to "sculpt" faces on pots, will give demonstrations of his craft on Oct. 20, at Van Meter School, while Tim Burns of Oakland (no relation to Wes) will visit Lexington School on Oct. 19 and 26, and Blossom Hill School on Oct. 30, to demonstrate how he creates three-dimensional art using found objects.

The goal of the Guest Artist program is to introduce school-age children to the works of local, professional artists and to connect them more closely with art in their community.

ArtWalk 2000 consists of a gallery tour, reception and art auction on Oct. 21, in downtown Los Gatos. The gallery walk runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and includes Elemental Arts, Tercera Gallery, James Bond Gallery, Virtual Art Gallery, Borders Books and the Los Gatos Museum of Art and Natural History. The reception begins at 9 p.m. at the Los Gatos Museum, followed by the auction.

Tickets are $25 per person, with proceeds benefiting the Art Docents of Los Gatos, the volunteer-run organization dedicated to art education in the Los Gatos Union School District.

Tickets can be purchased at the Art Docents office, 17000 Roberts Road. For more information, call 408.358.1185, or email artdocents@aol.com.
