The Best of Los Gatos 1998

Los Gatos may be home to the movers and shakers of Silicon Valley, and high tech may be second nature to many Los Gatans who know their way around the Internet. Still, what people who live here say they like about Los Gatos is its old-fashioned charm.

For weekend visitors and residents alike, Los Gatos represents what was really good about those good old days.

In our annual Best of Los Gatos survey, readers told us that they value historic structures like the Fretwell Building, that the best neighborhood in town is one that generations of Los Gatans have admired--the Glenridge neighborhood with its fine Victorian homes.

Not surprisingly, large numbers of our readers said the best place to impress visitors is downtown, a large part of which is in the town's historic district.

When our readers select their favorite restaurants or dry cleaners or TV repair shops, they choose shops or business people who offer quality and service with a smile, qualities remembered with fondness from an earlier era.

Each year the Los Gatos Weekly-Times invites readers to vote for their favorites, the Best of Los Gatos. We make no claims or endorsements; we simply tally the votes and write about the winners.

As far as we're concerned, this is the issue that our readers make happen.
