Los Gatos Weekly-TimesAntonio Lannes Sports BriefsLannes honored Antonio Lannes, a former aquatics star at Los Gatos High, capped an outstanding swimming and water polo career at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., when he was presented the Albert E. Humphreys Award earlier this year. The award is presented annually to a male athlete for outstanding achievement. Lannes was a four-year starter on the Bucknell water polo team and was consistently among the team leaders in scoring, steals, assists and total points. He was a tri-captain on the school's swimming team. McMains stars at Brown Univ. Mary McMains, a former star athlete at Los Gatos, is a senior captain on the women's volleyball team at Brown University. The 5-foot-10 McMains is an outside hitter for the Bears who finished first on the team in service aces, second in digs and third in kills last season. She posted a career-high 20 kills in a win over San Francisco last year. Locals play at Northwestern Brice Blatz of Saratoga and Kathryn Breed of Los Gatos are both members of fall sports teams at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Blatz, a Saratoga resident who attended St. Francis, is a freshman midfielder on the men's soccer team. Breed is a freshman forward on the women's field hockey team.
