There's something to be said for getting off to a good start.
But there's something really special about getting off to a great start.
And that's just what the Los Gatos boys' water polo team did against Lynbrook in a game in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
The Cats jumped on the Vikings for seven goals in the first period and never looked back on the road to an 18-13 win that wasn't nearly as close as the score would indicate.
Gatos held a comfortable 7-0 lead after a period and was up 9-4 at the half. Lynbrook cut the lead to 11-9 by the end of the third period, but that's when the Cats put an end to Lynbrook's hopes by outscoring the Vikings 7-4 to claim the five-goal victory.
Ivica Silov led the Wildcats with seven goals in the win and James Rego pitched in five. Chris Park added a pair of goals for the Cats and Marc Cavagnolo, Nicolaas Van Biene, Garrett Mills and Grant Wernick hit one each.
The win left the Wildcats 3-0 in the De Anza and 14-2 for the year.
Gunn aces Cats
Leah Thomas won by default at No. 1 singles, and Maren Lassner won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2, but the Los Gatos girls' tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Gunn.
The loss left the Wildcats 4-5 in the rugger De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
Cats stick Eagles
The Los Gatos girls' field hockey team stuck it to Los Altos for a 2-1 victory in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
Darcy Pegram and Michelle Bellanca each scored goals to lift the Cats to the close win.
The Eagles scored in the first half, but the Cats tied it in the second half, then took the lead for good. They're now 2-1 in division play.
Volleyball Loss
The Los Gatos girls' volleyball team suffered a three-game loss at the hands of St. Francis last week.
The Cats lost 15-9, 15-12, 15-10 to the Lancers to drop to 3-3 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL and to 9-7 for the year.
