Chevys Run hits San Jose
Runners will be off and, well, running when the Chevys Fresh Mex National Run Tour hits San Jose on Nov. 2.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at Chevys Mexican Restaurant, 550 S. Winchester in San Jose, with 5K and 10K courses winding through the streets of the area.
The registration fee of $22 includes entry in the race, an official race T-shirt and sombrero, and a post-race fiesta that includes food and entertainment.
The overall male and female winners will each receive a Fresh Mex Run Tour sweatshirt and $100 worth of Chevys bucks. The top three finishers in each age group will receive Fresh Mex Run Mugs.
Proceeds from the run benefit the San Jose chapter of the American Heart Association.

Pop Warner teams advance
The Los Gatos Pop Warner Football organization has qualified three football teams and two cheer squads for post-season play.
The football action, the Los Gatos Tigers (junior pee wee), Cougars (junior midget) and Panthers (midget) each earned spots in the regional playoffs.
The Tigers knocked off Mountain View 28-12, and the Cougars handled Palo Alto 28-6. The Panthers beat Gilroy 26-6 to claim their first playoff berth in 10 years.
The cheers teams for the Bobcats (pee wee) and Panthers advanced to the conference championships. It marks the first time in the organzation's history that its cheer squads have reached the championships.
Vikings win
The West Valley Community College women's volleyball team pulled out a five-game thriller from Cabrillo to even its Coast Conference record at 1-1.
The Vikings lost 16-14, 15-3 to the Seahawks to fall behind 2-0, but battled back to win 15-13, 15-10, 16-14 to claim the exciting victory.
The Vikes are now 6-3 for the year.
