    Leigh playing under the lights

It's nothing new for the Leigh football team to play under the lights on a Friday night. The Longhorns have done it many times at Westmont, Los Gatos and other schools in the area.

But a home game under the lights? Well, that's the plan for this Friday.

The Longhorns will host Leland on Nov. 2, 7 p.m., in the first night football game to ever be played on the Leigh campus.

The school will bring in temporary lights for the night, that begins with a frosh-soph game at 4:30 p.m.

The effort is part of a program that Leigh boosters and officials hope will bring permanent lights to the field. There is currently a fund-raising effort under way to raise the $150,000 needed to install lights at the field. The school has already raised $60,000.

    High School Heisman

The Wendy's High School Heisman program honors the nation's top high school student-athletes with awards based on academics, athletics and community service.

Lyndsay Erickson and Ken McKell of Los Gatos are among those senior athletes from the area who have been nominated for the honor.

There will be 12 finalists selected from the national list of nominees with the two national winners claiming the ultimate awards on Dec. 8.

    Softball Signups

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Girls Softball Association will hold signups for the spring 2002 season on Nov. 6 and 13, 7-9 p.m., at Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos and Nov. 14 and 15, 6-9 p.m., at the Saratoga Community Center.

The league is open to girls ages 7-15. For more information, call 408.370.0426.
