    Orientation sessions for Child Advocates

Orientation sessions for Child Advocates of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties are being offered on Nov. 8, Nov. 14 and Dec. 6.

Child Advocates is a nonprofit organization whose volunteers shepherd abused, neglected or abandoned children through the Santa Clara County juvenile dependency system.

Child Advocates are appointed by a judge to speak up for the child in court. They inform the court of the child's wishes and make recommendations about where and with whom the child should be.

Training begins on Jan. 17. Call 408.573.5605.

    Gobble-Gobble for Town Seniors

The town of Los Gatos, with help from Senior Drop-in Center volunteers, is presenting the annual Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors on Nov. 18, at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center.

The event begins at noon, and will feature entertainment, door prizes and food prepared by Chris Benson of C.B. Hannegan's and other Los Gatos restaurants.

Dinner is free, but seniors are asked to bring canned food to donate to the holiday food drive for St. Luke's Church. For information, call the community services depart-ment at 408.354.6820.

    Poll workers needed Nov. 7

Santa Clara County's registrar of voters is in dire need of 700 poll workers to staff 1,139 polling places for the Nov. 7 Presidential General Election.

Precinct inspectors are paid $115 and election clerks $85 to work election day.

Poll workers must be U.S. citizens, a resident of Santa Clara County, and at least 18 years old. Call 408.299.POLL.
