The Prowler
In this week's column, the Prowler has three exciting topics to share: one strictly for children, one for mature adults, and one for women of all ages!
The weather may have turned cold and wet, but since when has that stopped curious kids? Likewise, it also does not stop the Youth Science Institute, which has a great autumn line up of afternoon science classes planned. "Spaced Out," from Nov. 6 to 9, involves building a solar system model, playing a celestial game and learning about space. "Treasure from Trash," Nov. 13-16, teaches about recycling. "Spying on Spiders," Nov. 27-30, ensnares kids in a web of interesting arachnid facts and introduces them to a live tarantula.
All classes run from 3:45 to 5 p.m. at the YSI Nature Center in Vasona Lake County Park and cost $14 per child. Class days are scheduled by age group. Call 408.356.4945.
Grown-ups have their chance to make their own interesting discoveries at Iwasawa Oriental Art, at 75 University Ave. Now through Nov. 25, one of Cat Town's most unique galleries is exhibiting an array of Japanese erotic art, known as shunga. This style has existed in Japan since the 12th century and includes ukiyoe art, which depicts a world filled with rapture and happiness and the exuberant lives lived by the courtesans. Don't miss this!
Finally, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation offers a workshop titled Women Who Care Too Much on Nov. 4, from 1 to 5 p.m. Participants will learn how to take care of themselves, not feel victimized and get what they really want. Cost is $45. To register, call 408.354.8700.
