The town's Youth Citizens will lead holiday parade
Three Los Gatos teenagers--Joshua Granger, Adam Clark and Tommy Harrison--received Youth Citizen Awards on Oct. 14, honoring their school and civic activities during a presentation by the board of the Los Gatos Youth Park Inc. The park, located behind Los Gatos High School, is a center for young people's Scouting and 4-H activities. It is also used by the South Bay Striders and the Southwest YMCA.
Many local youths are nominated each year by teachers, clergy, friends and other people who know them. Only three receive the honor, which includes resolutions from the Los Gatos Town Council, various Los Gatos service clubs, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, local legislators and Gov. Gray Davis.
The teens also received engraved whistles provided by the Bill Jones Wildcat Railroad; they will blow the whistles on Dec. 2, to officially start the annual Christmas and Holiday Parade. The day before, they will also be honored at the annual tree lighting ceremony in the Town Plaza.
Joshua, an eighth-grader at Fisher Middle School, was nominated by Rose Arnaudo, a longtime supporter of youth activities and the Youth Park. Joshua is an active member of Boy Scout Troop 501, belongs to the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood and earned the rank of Eagle Scout--Scouting's highest honor. He is a referee with the U.S. Soccer Federation and is a member of the Fisher student council, symphonic band, jazz band, honor society and wrestling team.
Adam and Tommy were both nominated by Vice Principal Douglas Ramezane and both serve on the school's technical crew. The crew's duties include coordinating bell schedules and running the equipment necessary to provide light and sound for school dances and plays. Both young men have donated many hours to their duties to the school and its extended community.
