    Obituaries

    Kenneth Wood

    Los Gatos resident Kenneth "Ken" Stannard Wood, who formerly lived in Saratoga for many years, died on Sept. 20 at the age of 85.

    Born on July 11, 1914, in Gold Beach, Ore., Wood was a 1935 graduate of the University of Oregon. Two years later, he married wife Ruth Billings, who preceded him in death. He later graduated from Northwestern College of Law and worked for the Oregon State Tax Commission and the CPA firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. He later established his own CPA practice in San Jose, called Wood, Nye & Co., which later merged into Hurdman and Cranstoun.

    Wood also was a part-time instructor at Multnomah College in Portland and later at San Jose State University and the University of California Extension Division.

    Wood was a member of the American Institute of CPAs, a board member of the Visiting Nurses Association, an honorary life member and past president of the California State Society of CPAs and a founding member of the society's San Jose chapter. He also was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Lions clubs, the University Club of San Jose, the Estate Planning Council of San Jose and the Peninsula Tax Club. An active usher, speaker and vestry member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga, Wood also enjoyed golf, bridge, fishing and gardening.

    Survivors include wife Virginia Kotkin Wood; son Warren Wood; daughters Sue Ellen Hogue and Lucinda Thompson; stepson George Mansfield; grandchildren Wendy and Kenneth Wood, David and Jenifer Thompson and Kimberly Ferreira.

    Memorial services have been held.

    Jon Gill

    Los Gatan Jon D. Gill died on Sept. 29 in his home at the age of 62.

    Born on Nov. 19, 1936, in Glenwood Springs, Colo., he worked as a programmer with Litton Industries, a manufacturing firm. He also served in the U.S. Navy's air arm from 1961 to 1969.

    Survivors include sister Teddy Jane Burdick of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and brother Lynwood Gill of Grizzly Flats, Calif.

    Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to Medshare Hospice, 2025 Gateway Place, Suite 260, San Jose, 95110.

    John Jacobs

    Los Gatan John F. "Jack" Jacobs died on Oct. 10 at the Sunnyvale care home where he was residing. He was 82.

    Born on June 17, 1917, in St. Catharine, Ontario, Jacobs worked for 30 years as a toolmaker for the firm Ferranti-Packard. He was also an oil painter. He moved to Los Gatos in 1985.

    Survivors include wife Catherine N. Jacobs of Los Gatos; four children and eight grandchildren.

    Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

    William Palmer

    William Wells Palmer, who lived in Los Gatos for the past 45 years, died on Oct. 20 of complications of cancer. He was 86.

    Palmer was born on May 25, 1913, in Rigby, Idaho, and worked in the woodworking business for 50 years.

    He is survived by wife Marion Palmer of Los Gatos; sons Ralph of Los Gatos, John of Pleasanton, Bill of Half Moon Bay and Tom of Montara; and eight grandchildren.

    Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the Mono Lake Committee, William Wells Palmer Fund, P.O. Box 29, Lee Vining, CA 93541.
