The Prowler
Have the children of the Prowler's readers come down off their Halloween-induced sugar highs yet? Probably not, if this cat's memories of kittenhood trick-or-treating are any indication. In case the candy crazies last well into November, here's a handful of fun things to do with youngsters.
The Los Gatos Library offers a variety of free children's storytimes. Mondays at 10:30 a.m. are for toddlers, while preschoolers have their days on Tuesday and Wednesday, also at 10:30 a.m. For children of all ages, volunteer "Library Grandparents" read stories every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. For information on being a volunteer storyteller, call 408.399.5723.
Speaking of books, Los Gatos' Congregation Shir Hadash, at 16555 Shannon Road, holds its Children's Book Fair on Nov. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. Four children's authors will discuss and sign their works, and parents can browse among a large selection of books. Admission is a $10 donation, which includes tea and desserts. Proceeds benefit the libraries at Brandeis University.
Its not even December yet, but Theatre in the Mountains will be performing that Charles Dickens' holiday favorite, A Christmas Carol, on weekends from Nov. 20 to Dec. 5. Shows take place at 23800 Summit Road; call 408.353.9999 for info!
"Early" is the key for parents who want to take their children to the hands-on gingerbread house workshops on Dec. 18 at Sur La Table in Old Town. The 9-11:30 a.m. class already has a waiting list, but there is still room in the 1:30-4 p.m. slot. The class lets kids and parents assemble and decorate a beautifully edible holiday house. To sign up, call 408.395.6946.
