The Prowler

Although the end of daylight-saving time seems to have given us fewer hours in our days--at least until the winter solstice, on Dec. 22-- that doesn't mean there's a shortage of cool things to do. In fact, the Prowler has noticed the contrary is true!

Afternoon fun for children takes place at the Los Gatos Library three Thursdays this month at 3:15 p.m. On Nov. 5, Judith Lynn leads 3- to 6-year-olds in a song circle comprising rhymes, rhythm games and songs. Nov. 12 brings the adventures of Lewis and Clark alive for kids six and up. The Johnson Brothers Puppets drop by Nov. 19 to perform "Akimba and the Magic Cow," a show for all ages.

Speaking of animals, the last chance this year has come to learn about and meet the Icelandic horses at Icelandic Crest Ranch, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The ranch, one of the few venues in Northern California to breed, sell and offer lessons on these unusually gentle, social and intelligent animals, holds a free open house from 1 to 4 p.m. both days. The Prowler hears there may even be equitation involved--that $10 word simply means horseback riding! Directions are available at 353-8170.

Shutterbugs will be in their element Nov. 16 at the meeting of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Camera Club. Set for 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos, the meeting includes a presentation by Lori Hill, a past president of the Sierra Club's photography division. Hill will share her photos of Oregon's gorgeous scenery and offer tips on getting the most from outdoor photography. Anyone interested in photography is welcome, and admission is free. Call 379-4741 for more info.
