Vasona's new entrance is nearing completion

By Shari Kaplan

The maze of cones, temporary fences, barriers and construction vehicles surrounding the new entrance to Vasona Lake County Park should be cleared by early November when the project is finished, according to county park planner Debbie Turpen. The four-way traffic signals installed a few weeks ago should be in working order by the end of this month.

The park entrance now lies further up the street, close to Los Gatos Creek and across from the entrances to West Roberts Road and Los Gatos Glen, the new residential development by Summerhill Homes.

The developer is paying for the widening and rebuilding of the Vasona wall, the new gate, the traffic signals and the improvements to that portion of Blossom Hill Road, which include a left-turn lane for eastbound traffic and a right-hand turnout for traffic going west. The wall, which consists of concrete blocks covered with stone facing for a natural look, is nearly complete.

Later this winter and spring, the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department will finance improvements specific to Vasona Park, including a new kiosk at the park entrance, landscaping along the driveways and possibly a visitors' center, Turpen said.
