Los Gatans honored as women of achievement

Five women connected with Los Gatos and Monte Sereno, either through their work or residence, will be honored on Nov. 18 during the 23rd annual Women of Achievement Awards presented by The Women's Fund and the San Jose Mercury News.

Held at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose, the ceremony honors women who demonstrate excellence in their individual accomplishments; who improve, expand or advocate their fields; provide leadership and offer vision; act as role models; and positively impact their communities. Since 1972, more than 190 Bay Area women have been recognized for such achievements. There are 14 different categories in which women are recognized.

Suzanne E. Jackson, a Monte Sereno resident and the city's mayor, will be honored in the public elected officials category. Mythili Kumar, also a resident of Monte Sereno, will be honored in the arts category for her work as a founder of and performer with the Abhinaya Dance Company of San Jose.

Los Gatans Diana F. Nichols, a teacher with the Harker Academy in San Jose, will be recognized in the education category, while Gladie Rabitz, who is active in many Los Gatos community groups including A Place for Teens, will be honored for her volunteerism. Surinder K. Singh, also of Los Gatos, will receive recognition for her work in the corporate category. Singh works for B.J.S. Electronics, Inc. in Milpitas.

The Women's Fund is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that serves to enrich the lives of Bay Area women and girls through education and service programs.
