LOS GATANS PLAY IN NEW SJSYO CONCERT

A handful of young people from the Los Gatos area and local schools will perform during the San Jose Symphony Youth Orchestra's season-opening concert on Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, located in downtown San Jose.

The concert begins with the Junior Orchestra, conducted by Timothy Beswick, playing works by Tchaikovsky, Verdi and Debussy. Among the musicians is violinist Andrew Lee of Fisher Middle School.

After a brief intermission, Yair Samet conducts the Senior Orchestra in Capriccio Italien by Tchaikovsky, Petrouchka by Stravinsky and Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussourgsky. Among the local musicians are Los Gatos High students Gavin Johnson, Andrew Wooster, Anna Bechen, Annie Farnady, Chris Choi, Lisa Hwang, Brian Hwang, Todd Fisher, Kelly Johnson and Daniel Grin.

The SYSYO is made up of two orchestras and two ensembles. The Junior Orchestra is an intermediate group that encourages young musicians to develop their skills and play more challenging music. The Senior Orchestra enables students to experience the elements of a professional orchestral environment while expanding their musical skills and repertoire.

Tickets are available from the San Jose Symphony Box Office or the Center for Performing Arts.
