330 University coming to council

A plan for an upscale housing development at 330 University Ave. that was denied by the Planning Commission comes to the Town Council on appeal Monday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Maxim is asking for 22 single-family detached homes on the site, which puts the project at the bottom end of the zoning density for the site, but neighbors say that building more homes in the area would tie up traffic on University Avenue.

Maxim's Bill Hirschman, however, says the traffic report prepared for the project said there would be no significant impact, and says improvements to the intersection of University and Highway 9 that are included in his plan would actually improve circulation.

Options for weed control

District 1 Supervisor Don Gage and staff from the county Roads and Airports Department met with mountain residents Oct. 28 to look at alternatives to using the Garlon 4 herbicide on roadside grass and weeds in mountain areas. Another meeting will be held mid-November, Gage said.

"It went well," Gage said. "Everyone's not going to get everything they want, but we can certainly work on some compromises.

For information, call Gage's office at 299-3273.

Salvation Army's Adopt-a-Family

The Salvation Army is getting ready for another Season of Sharing with its Adopt-a-Family program, which matches needy families with those who can help. But it's not just families that can adopt-a-family; offices or organizations also can help provide food, toys, clothes, and other necessities.
