Run for turkeys in Los Gatos

They run for the gold every four years in the Olympic Games.

They run for the roses every year in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

And in Los Gatos every November, they run for the ... turkeys?

That's right, and they'll do it again on Nov. 15 when the 22nd annual Turkey Trot Family Fun Run returns to Vasona Park.

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation will co-sponsor the event along with the Los Gatos Athletic Association, and runners of all ages will toe the starting line at 9:30 a.m. On-site registration begins at 8:45 a.m.

The pre-registration fee of $12 for 1st-8th graders and $14 for all other runners includes a race T-shirt. The fees are $6 and $7 without a T-shirt.

Runners will compete in the following divisions: 1st-3rd grade (.6-mile), 4th-6th grade (1.1-mile), junior high (1.4-mile), high school age-25 years (2.4-miles), 26-39 (2.4-miles) and 40-and-over (2.4-miles). Turkey certificates will be presented to all division winners (both male and female) and completion certificates will be given to all finishers.

For more information on the race, call 354-8700.
