Kottmeier won this battle, but the Wildcats tied 0-0 against the Vikings. Tie proves costly for CatsGatos beats Leland, but still in secondBy Dick Sparrer Statistically at least, you might say the Los Gatos girls' field hockey team performed better than the Lynbrook girls last week. Both teams recorded a couple of shutouts, but the Wildcats outscored the Vikings 4-2 in the two games they played. Unfortunately for the Cats, their two games were not against each other... only one was. And that one ended in a scoreless tie that helped Lynbrook wrap up the championship in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. The clubs had tied the first time they met in a league match back in October, and they remained tied for the division lead until last week when Los Gatos was tied 1-1 by Mitty. That second tie left the Wildcats a point behind the Vikings in the division standings heading into their crucial match last week. Gatos needed a win over Lynbrook to take over first place, but the Vikings held off the Cats to preserve the important tie. That meant that all Lynbrook had to do was win its final league match against Mitty to clinch the crown. And that's just what the Vikings did. Lynbrook blanked Mitty 2-0 on two goals by Pooja Mehta off a couple of assists from Divya Chowdary. The win left the Vikings 8-0-2 in the Mt. Hamilton Division. Los Gatos needed a win, too, to stay alive, and the Wildcats came through with a 4-0 victory over Leland. But the Cats needed more than a win... they needed the Vikings to stumble and either lose or tie against Mitty. Still, Gatos came through with an impressive performance against the Chargers. They scored two goals in each half on the road to a lopsided 4-0 victory. Sophomore Anita Reyes knocked in a pair of goals off assists from Alison Carabetta and Courtney Radonich. Iming Lin scored off an assist from Cortney Kelly, and Juli Fomenko scored off an assist from Carabetta to help the Cats to the victory. Los Gatos improved to 7-0-3 in the division with the win. Both the Vikings and Wildcats will now move on to the Central Coast Section playoffs that begin Nov. 14.
