Fill food bags for Boy Scouts

The Santa Clara County Council of the Boy Scouts of America kicked off its annual countywide food drive, called Scouting for Food, on Nov. 8. More than 11,000 Scouts dropped off empty grocery bags in their neighborhoods requesting that people fill the bags with dry and canned goods to feed hungry people over the holidays.

It's not too late to make arrangements for Scouts to pick up donations as they make their rounds Nov. 15 and bring the food to one of five collection locations staffed by Scout volunteers. Food is generally distributed in the community from which it is collected.

Last year's Scouting for Food drive brought in approximately 65,000 pounds of food in Santa Clara County. For individuals who wish to bring food donations directly to collection sites, the two closest to Los Gatos are The Home Church, 1799 Winchester Blvd., Campbell, and Second Harvest Food Bank, 750 Curtner Ave., San Jose.
