The Prowler

Seeing as the Thanksgiving season celebrates abundance, it's only fitting that there's an embarrassment of riches--so to speak--of special events this month. Here's a small sample in calendar order--that way no one wonders why the Prowler mentioned their event before or after someone else's.

The Discovery Shop of Los Gatos on 39 E. Main St. begins its "Celebrate the Season" promotion this week. The upscale store has some special-occasion designer women's clothes for sale, as well as tableware and one-of-a-kind holiday gift items. Donations are always welcome--including gently used clothing, furniture and household items. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Speaking of cool gifts, this cat hears the 18th annual Christmas in the Studio is bursting with great items. This show had its humble beginnings in the studio of Los Gatan Maxine Kirmeyer, who got together with artist friends for a holiday art and craft show each year. It's moved on to bigger venues over the years and now takes place at the San Jose Scottish Rite Center at 2455 Masonic Drive. Joining 36 artisans from throughout California are locals Donna Frank, Ardis Nagler, Nancy Papa, Lynne Rosenthal and Mary Simmons. Call 379-4554 for more info.

To burn off some extra calories in anticipation of a big Thanksgiving feast, head out to the 22nd annual Turkey Trot Family Fun Run, which takes place the morning of Nov. 16 at Vasona Lake County Park. Courses range from 0.6 to 2.4 miles, with six divisions based on age. Winners receive turkey gift certificates--stuffing and cranberry sauce not included! For all the details, call 354-8700.
