The Prowler

Christmas in November seems to be the order of the day lately. Not that the Prowler minds--being a procrastinating cat, it's nice to see some people are actually planning ahead.

The 17-year-old Christmas in the Studios group, started by local artist Maxine Kirmeyer, is holding its arts and crafts show Nov. 13-15. With 30 California artists contributing everything from handmade dolls and clothing to gift baskets and photographs, the originally Los Gatos-based group has relocated the show to the Scottish Rite Center in San Jose. Call 374-5662 to start checking names off your gift list.

Another local group, the West Valley Federated Women's Club, is holding a faire, fashion show, lunch and holiday boutique on Nov. 16 to give shoppers a chance to buy gifts while helping the club in its fundraiser for charitable causes. This year's venue is La Rinconada Country Club, here in LG. Calling 286-1360 gets you the details.

As usual, Villa Montalvo is holding its annual Yuletide bash Nov. 15-17, in which the already impressive rooms are bedecked with cheery holiday decor. This year's theme is "Christmas during Senator Phelan's Time," harkening back to the early 1900s; so, don't expect to see whimsical Hallmark ornaments or hear "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer." Call the Villa at 741-3421, ext. 315, for more information.

Speaking of shows, a press release for West Valley College's annual winter play proclaims: "Finally! Something new for the holidays other than A Christmas Carol and Nutcracker." The Prowler is no humbug, but admittedly has been getting a bit tired of ghosts and sugarplum fairies every year. An original musical version of C.S. Lewis's classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will open Nov. 22 and run through Dec. 15. Give WVC a jingle at 741-2462 for performance times and prices.
