The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department is looking for hikers, joggers, bicyclists, motorcyclists, skaters and equestrians who are interested in serving as TrailWatch volunteers to serve various positions in the county's 27 parks.
All TrailWatch candidates must complete a 20-hour TrailWatch Academy scheduled for Jan. 8, 11, 15 and 18. The academy includes a general orientation, American Red Cross first aid and CPR certification, two-way radio use lessons and public safety procedures. Skaters, bikers, motorcyclists and equestrians are also required to complete a proficiency exercise prior to the academy.
Individuals interested in providing information, assistance or aid to their fellow walkers, hikers or joggers are welcome at all parks. Specific parks need either bikers, mountain bikers, skaters or equestrians. Motorcycle Park seeks motorcyclists. Once assigned, TrailWatch volunteers must agree to work a minimum of 40 hours per year, for at least one year.
For more information or an application, call parks volunteer coordinator Chris Crockett at 354-6583.
