Kids list a few of their favorite things about the winter holidays

Teachers at Alta Vista School and Foothill School asked their students which winter holidays they celebrate and what they do to make the occasions special. Here are a few of the children's responses.

I celebrate Christmas with my huge family and I have no where to go! Some of my friends come over to celebrate. We stay up long after bedtime! --Megan Slattery

I love Chanukah. Besides my birthday it's my favorite. I hope to get a good present like the Death Star. --Jeffrey Singer

On Christmas I go to my mom's house to get my presents. Then I go back home and spend the day there with my Dad. On Thanksgiving I go to Grandma's house. . . . We eat turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy. --Alyson Geppert

I celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter and Veteran's Day. That is what I do. Daddy makes a tape of us opening presents on Christmas and then we watch it. On New Year's Eve I watch a movie about a building being destroyed. It's so cool. On Thanksgiving I go to Aunt Erika's house to eat turkey. --James Hessinger

Here's how we celebrate Christmas. We decorate the tree with angels and then we go to bed. The next day I make sure that nobody is up and then I look and see how many presents I got. --Benjamin Campbell

On Christmas Eve I go to people's houses. I go to my great-aunt's house first. Then I go to my grandma's house. Then last I go to my other grandma's house. --Rachel Clopton

We celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25. We decorate the tree with ball bells. I get lots of presents on that day. My mom helps me to put the star on the tree. On Christmas Day I open all of my gifts that I have. Then, me and my mom bake gingerbread cookies! And I wear my Christmas dress! --Juliet Barnia

My family celebrates Christmas. We make cookies for Santa. Then we go to sleep. Then I hear Santa's sleigh on the roof. Santa gives us presents and so does my mom and dad. --Chase Currier

My family celebrates Christmas. We go to Lake Tahoe and build a snowman. On Christmas night we go to the Christmas park to look at the lights. On Christmas morning we open our presents. Then we play with them. --Benjamin Shyong

On Thanksgiving we buy a turkey. We invite most of our relatives to come to our house. We eat the turkey and have a big feast. I like Thanksgiving because it is a good holiday! --Jeffrey Scott Maiten

My family and I celebrate Christmas. On Christmas morning I will play the piano for my family while they open their presents. Then when they are done opening their presents I will open mine. Then we will gather around the Christmas tree and have a happy Christmas. --Michelle Salah

On Christmas Eve my family and I decorate the tree. We sit by the fireplace and roast marshmellows. I make some hot chocolate to drink. --Christy Banks

I celebrate Christmas by putting ornaments on the Christmas tree. Then my mom and dad put presents under the Christmas tree in the middle of the night. But before all that we have to set up the Christmas tree. --Peter Chien

On Christmas I have lots of presents. Santa ate all the cookies and drank half of the milk. The reindeer ate a whole bowl of vegetables and fruits. I help Mom to make the cookies. I open the presents. Before Christmas my Dad cuts the tree. --Trey Young

I like Christmas. It is my favorite holiday. When I was little my two sisters and I would set a play for our parents. And have a good time. --Ian Miller

I go skiing with my family. I do double black diamonds. They are really fun. They are cool jumps. Me and my Dad go on triple black diamonds and I do mogels and I go back to my grandpa and grandma's and my cousins. I have fun. --Mackenzie Pridham

I celebrate Jesus at Christmas time. We also decorate the tree. Then on Christmas Eve we put presents under it. I wish it would snow in Saratoga. --Tiffany Hsia

I would open presents and I like to play with my new toys with my baby sister and once my big sister saw Santa Claus. My sister woke me up and right when we saw him he disappeared. Some of his clothes ripped and were left behind. --Sam Holmberg-Douglas

When it's Christmas I stay home and celebrate. I look around the house and try to find my Happy Holly. Happy Holly is a little elf who stays at your house for 24 days. Happy Holly is nice but it's bad to touch him so I don't. If you touch him he will tell Santa not to let me get any presents. On Thanksgiving we always go to my Grandma's house. It's fun. We eat turkey and have cranberry jello. --David H.

Almost every Christmas my uncle comes, and Jordan doesn't go to sleep until 12:30. --Colin

On Christmas an Elf comes to see if I am bad or good and reports back to Santa. On Thanksgiving we cook turkey. On Kwanzaa we make masks at my house. --Tyson J. Hawkins
