Valle Monte League stages its Christmas Tree Elegance

The Valle Monte League's annual Christmas Tree Elegance, a four-day, pre-holiday celebration marking its 32nd year, takes place Nov. 30 through Dec. 3 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 2050 Gateway Place in San Jose.

This year's celebration, dubbed "A Highland Christmas," features a variety of parties and events at which 18 fanciful Christmas trees will be given away to participants via donation drawing. Professional designers trim the trees with colorful ornaments, gifts and other creative items. Through donations, Valle Monte members secure the gifts that accompany the trees, each of which is valued at least $3,500.

The week's events include: a champagne brunch and an evening holiday office party on Nov. 30; a morning coffee and an afternoon tea on Dec. 1; a morning coffee, an afternoon tea and an evening children's party (complete with refreshments, gifts, entertainment and a visit from St. Nick); and a grand finale black tie-optional gala the evening of Dec. 3. The gala features hors d'oeuvres, dinner, a dessert buffet, a silent auction and dancing to the Tim Wallace Band. All events include a Macy's fashion show, except the gala and the children's party.

Christmas Tree Elegance, the Valle Monte League's biggest fundraiser, benefits the Adult and Child Guidance Center, the Alzheimer's Activity Center, the Centre for Living with Dying and the John XXIII Multi-Service Center. Established in 1950, the Valle Monte League is a nonprofit, volunteer organization of Santa Clara Valley women whose goal is to raise funds for licensed mental-health agencies.

The cost of admission varies by event, some of which may be sold out. For reservations, ticket information and individual event times, call 408.278.8001.
