Columbia to install patient information system for records
The Columbia Bay Area Healthcare Network, which includes the Columbia Good Samaritan Hospital, is scheduled to install a $10 million patient-care information system in five of its Bay Area hospitals by December.
The first system of its kind in the area, the Columbia Patient Care System allows nurses or caregivers to see the record of a patient's health care treatment taking place at any connected facility through a series of computers and hand-held units developed by the Massachusetts-based company Meditech. The small units let caregivers enter or retrieve a patient's medical record and treatment information at the patient's hospital bedside, in a doctor's office or in the patient's home.
Columbia is developing this fully automated and integrated patient care system for use throughout its nationwide network of hospitals, surgery centers (including Columbia Los Gatos Surgical Center) and home health agencies.
