With this Thursday being Thanksgiving, please permit this cat to ramble a little on the topic of being thankful. Los Gatos, like any city or town, has its share of problems, but there's still plenty to be thankful for.
We have enough eating establishments per square mile (particularly along the main drag of N. Santa Cruz Avenue) to give a shopping mall's food court a run for its money. Nothing wrong with restaurant rows, though, as it gives a mercurial cat enough choices to last a month before revisiting the same place--that is, if the Prowler had enough time and money to eat out every day!
Then there are antique shops, which are also pretty prolific, maybe even more so than in our neighboring Saratoga. Not sure about that, but what's certain is that fans of all things antiquated can find everything from 5-cent buttons to furniture relics going back hundreds of years and setting buyers back thousands of dollars.
For those who prefer to look but not touch, there's an array of more than a dozen art galleries where viewers can appreciate landscapes and portraits, vases, sculptures, jewelry--and even tastefully offensive depictions of the male anatomy disguised as animals.
Los Gatos is also a good place to bring your future in-laws to see how easily offended they are, what with these domes and cupolas and pieces of architecture causing silly flaps.
Speaking of discord, that brings to this feline's mind the peace-keepers of Cat Town. Where else do people call police because they and their neighbors got into a fight over pulling flowers, or they found a rat scampering through the house, or thought their child was missing, only to have officers locate the tyke hiding under a bed?
But seriously, Los Gatos has great schools, wooded parks, fun community events, cool stores and even cooler people, as shown by the recent "Best Of" issue, in which readers said the people were the very best reason to live here.
