Street closures set for holiday parade

The annual Children's Christmas and Holiday Parade takes place Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., but the associated downtown streets will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The affected streets are N. Santa Cruz Avenue, north of Main Street and south of Saratoga Avenue; Main Street, east of Tait Avenue and west of High School Court; University Avenue, north of W. Main and south of Saratoga Avenue; Village Lane, Petticoat Lane and Bachman Avenue between University and Tait avenues; and portions of Almendra, Massol, Tait and Bachman avenues.

Traffic will be detoured, and police warn motorists to expect a high volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic near the parade route. Parking along the parade route is prohibited, and violators will be towed. Questions? Call Sergeant David Gravel, 408.354.6851.

    Conservancy to consider grant

The board of directors for the California Coastal Conservancy will meet Dec. 1 in Los Gatos Town Council Chambers to discuss, among other things, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District's $3 million grant application.

MROSD seeks the money to help pay for the purchase of a portion of the Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. MROSD is also seeking a $3 million loan from the Coastal Conservancy for the same property, which was recently purchased from Arlie Land and Cattle Co.

If MROSD is successful in obtaining the grant and loan, the money will be turned over to the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), which contributed $10 million to the Bear Creek purchase and has agreed to hold a portion of the land until the district can afford to buy it outright.
