    Piraro, Marquess top clinic speakers

    By Dick Sparrer

Sam Piraro of San Jose State University and Mark Marquess of Stanford spent last spring at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

But the two veteran college coaches will spend a little time this winter as special guest speakers at the annual CCSA Clinic of Champions.

Piraro and Marquess will top a list of guest speakers at the clinic for softball and baseball coaches that will be held Dec. 9, 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m., at St. Joseph's School, 50 Emilie Ave. in Mountain View.

Eight college coaches and two top high school coaches will each give a 50-minute presentation on offense, defense or a particular aspect of the game.

Piraro and Marquess head up the list of college coaches that will also include Tom Dutton of Stanford, Mike Garcia of Cañada, Tom Martinez of the College of San Mateo, Chelle Putzer of Saint Mary's, Marcy Crouch of Santa Clara Unversity and Kyle Brumbaugh of Menlo. Outstanding high school coaches Chris Bradford of St. Francis and Jim Liggett of Carlmont are also among the speakers.

The clinic, run by Ray Calcagno, is open to coaches at the high school, junior high and youth levels. The cost is $35 per person. For more information, call 650.969.3295 or check the website at www.ccsa.net.
