The Los Gatos High School Marching Band belted out a tune as it passed the judges' reviewing stand.

    Spring-like Day

    High Spirits

There was more than one Grinch in this year's Children's Christmas and Holiday Parade, but unless sunny skies and unseasonable warmth qualify as negatives, no one could accuse the Grinch of stealing Chrismas in Los Gatos.

Fortunately the snowmen in this parade weren't really made of snow, because if they had been, they surely would have melted half way through.

In most ways, the 44th annual parade was strictly traditional with a plethora of Indian Guides and Princesses and their dads, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and Brownies, 4-H Clubbers and marching bands.

And there were the usual modes of mobility, from wagons to vintage cars to fire and garbage trucks. There was even a truck toting a cherry picker which bounced up and down along the route. New to the parade--and in great abundace--were silver scooters, some wrapped in red and green crepe paper, many unadorned.

Marching bands ranged from local middle and high schools to everyone's favorite, the Stanford Marching Band. Happily for those along the route who enjoy the sound of bagpipes, there were lots of bagpipers and a few highland dancers.

Lots of proud moms and dads joined in somewhere between the procession and the sidelines as their little angels and Christmas trees and packages and gingerbread men and snowmen and lions and tigers and zebras and wise men marched, danced, rode and--yes--snoozed their ways from one end of downtown Los Gatos to the other.

The Grinch and Company The Grinch (a.k.a. Kindergro Preschool owner Cindy Comeau) and Emily Wool drove the parade route in style.

Stanford Marching Band tenor sax players Sara Neff and Edward Beaux and the rest of the outrageously dressed musicians belted out a funky, high-energy version of Mr. Jones by the Talking Heads.

Snowman Even though the day of the parade was unseasonably warm, snowman Griffin Hennessy, 2, of Los Gatos managed to keep from melting.

Cheerleader Lauran Cook of Los Gatos Cheer appeared to be catapulted over the Santa Cruz Mountains by her peers.
