County releases housing figures

Los Gatos added a total of 40 housing units in the first half of 1998, according to figures compiled by the Santa Clara County Planning Department. Thirty-two of those units were single-family dwellings. In 1997, the town added 69 units.

During both periods, Los Gatos accounted for approximately 1 percent of the total new housing in the county, the report said. Monte Sereno added six homes to its housing stock in the first six months of the year, and nine homes total in 1997.

The new units bring Los Gatos up to a total of 12,406, as of July 1998. Monte Sereno now has more than 1,230 units.

The bulk of new units was in San Jose, which accounted for 77 percent of the county's growth in the first half of the year. Of those new units, about two-thirds were multi-family dwellings. San Jose added 3,842 units during the period, and 4,367 in 1997, or about 47 percent of the county's total growth.

Discussion on mobile home park closure

A mobile home park closure report prepared for the park at 484 Woodland Avenue (near Highway 9) will be discussed at a public meeting in the Town Council Chambers, Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

State regulations require a report for any park closures. Developer Barry Swenson has expressed an interest in redeveloping the park into condos, townhomes or senior housing.

At the meeting, the draft version of the report will be released, and residents will be given a chance to express their views to consultant Tom Kerr, who will incorporate the comments in the final version of the report.

The issue has been tentatively agendized for discussion by the Planning Commission on Jan. 27.
