The day belonged to the kids--as it always does

There were marching bands, Christmas packages, angels, trees (including the one recently returned to its home on the Stanford campus), reindeer, a camel, numerous canines--most in costume--trucks, trains, old cars and shiny new ones.

Rain, promised for early afternoon, held off until after dark.

It was quintessential Small Town, USA. The 42nd annual Children's Christmas and Holiday Parade went off without a hitch on Dec. 5.

While there were plenty of dignitiaries and a sprinkling of commercial entries, the day, as usual, belonged to the kids.

They came with their Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops, their Girl Scout and Brownie troops, their preschools and Indian Guide groups.

Some notables included the Indian Guides who pantomimed to the music of "YMCA," the Girl Scouts who asked the question, "Got Milk?" to a Girl Scout cookie theme, and a group of youngsters dressed as reindeer on strike, carrying picket signs and riding in an old-fashioned car. Many Indian Guides and Princesses outdid themselves with holiday themes.
