Los Gatos Weekly-TimesNews BriefsThe Giving Tree helps needy kids The Salvation Army and the Town of Los Gatos Employee Foundation are sponsoring "The Giving Tree" again this year to help bring presents to needy children in Santa Clara County. Trees will be located in the town clerk's office, the planning department, the police department and the library, and will be decorated with paper tags bearing the name of a gift that town employees or residents buy and return to designated drop areas. Ramp closure at highways 17, 85 Caltrans crews are remodeling the ramp from southbound Highway 85 to southbound Highway 17 to allow for higher-speed traffic by regrading it to make the approach steeper and giving the corner a wider, more constant radius. The rather creative detour route might make some drivers a little dizzy--to get around the closed ramp, signs route drivers under 17, around and up over 85, then around and down under 17, then around again onto southbound 17. Commuters may want to exit 85 at Winchester Boulevard. Weather permitting, construction should be finished by Dec. 20. Chamber sets holiday mixer The Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a holiday after-hours get together Wednesday, Dec. 17, to give the local business community a chance to mix with fellow Chamber members. Saratoga and Campbell chambers have also been invited to attend the event, which will be held at McHugh Lincoln-Mercury, 15400 Los Gatos Blvd., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be served, and tickets cost $5. For information, call Linda Asbury at 291-5281.
