The Prowler
When folks don't think they have enough food for a fancy dish, they throw together bits and pieces to create a pretty decent meal, albeit rather spontaneously. Such is the case with the this week's column--it's all good, just a bit haphazard.
Ambitious artistic types will be excited to hear the town of Los Gatos seeks applicants for its first-ever sculpture competition. According to this cat's sources, the town wants "a large outdoor sculpture that is suitable for public display." It also should be unique, creative and incorporate the surrounding environment. The Prowler thinks the celebrated Leo and Leona at the entrance to The Cats fits the bill perfectly! However, the pair are happy where they are, and the town needs something to display in front of Town Hall in the Civic Center. Call 408.354.6820, or visit www.town.los-gatos.ca.us on the Internet. Deadline is the Ides of March.
Speaking of the Civic Center, also home to the Los Gatos Public Library, the Library Grandparents program happens on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 3 to 5 p.m. It's a win-win situation: seniors get to read stories to kids, and kids can interact with their elders. Volunteer pos-
itions are also available. Call 408.354.6893.
Finally, if readers will permit the Prowler another brief foray into our neighboring Saratoga, there's a great holiday program called All That Brass set for Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave. Performed by Schola Cantorum and the Menlo Brass Quintet, it includes brass arrangements of Christmas favorites, choral works and fun sing-alongs. Call 650.254.1700.
