The Prowler
Already well into the holiday spirit, the Prowler became even more excited upon discovering that many local establishments are donating space and time to helping underprivileged folks for whom the holiday season is less than festive.
Five Los Gatos businesses are hosting Family Giving Trees, whose branches are adorned with wish cards instead of ornaments. Visitors and employees can choose a card, buy and wrap the item specified to fulfill a child's wish, and bring the gift back to the tree. Gifts are later picked up by FGT volunteers. These generous venues are Bank of the West on N. Santa Cruz Avenue, Wells Fargo on N. Santa Cruz Avenue and Los Gatos Boulevard, Cal Fed and Whole Foods Market, both on the Boulevard.
The nonprofit, San Jose-based Family Giving Tree, now in its 10th year, fulfills holiday wishes of Bay Area children--and sometimes families and seniors--who would otherwise go without. Gifts are distributed to charitable organizations and social service agencies that serve the needy.
The FGT can always use more volunteers and hosts. Visit them at www.familygivingtree.org or call 408.274.3224.
In a similar vein, Washington Mutual at the corner of N. Santa Cruz Avenue and Los Gatos- Saratoga Road in its lobby has a tree covered with wishes of clients of the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter. Also getting into the act are local offices of Coldwell Banker, which for the
14th year are serving as donation drop-off points for the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. New, unwrapped toys can be brought to the offices at 325 Los Gatos-Saratoga Road or 12029 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Visit www.toysfortotsscc.org for more information!
