Los Gatos shot down in shootout

Frosh-soph football coach steps down

Ryan, Blevins lead Gatos to soccer win

    By Dick Sparrer

The Los Gatos boys soccer team played four games last week, and the Wildcats only lost one game. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the Cats were winning the other three.

Gatos tied two opponents before losing a tough 1-0 decision to Mitty and pulling out a tight 2-1 victory over Fremont in the final game of the week for the Cats.

The Wildcats started the week by fighting Saratoga to a 1-1 draw, then they tied Leigh 1-1. After the 1-0 loss to the Monarchs, they wrapped up the week with the 2-1 win over the Firebirds. The effort left Los Gatos 2-2-2 in the season.

Goals by Seamus Ryan, Rory Quick and Greg Blevins helped the Wildcats to the 1-2-1 week.

Ryan scored a second-half goal off an assist from Quick to help the Cats pull out a 1-1 tie with the Falcons. Saratoga had led 1-0 at the half, but Gatos battled back for the tie.

It was more of the same later in the week against Leigh. The Longhorns scored first when sophomore Casey Gray knocked in a first-half goal. But the Cats tied the game when Quick scored off a Ben Frazier assist in the second half. Leigh pushed its season record to 4-1-2 with the tie.

The Wildcats were held scoreless in the loss to Mitty, but they came back with two goals to knock off Fremont.

Ryan scored in the first half, but the clubs were tied 1-1 at the half. Blevins broke the tie with a second-half goal that gave Los Gatos the victory.

The Los Gatos girls, meanwhile, pushed their season record to 1-0-2 when they battled Aptos to a scoreless tie last weekend. Aptos is off to a 7-0-1 start this winter.

Senior sensation Kassie Doubrava starred for the Leigh girls in a pair of impressive 5-0 victories.

Doubrava knocked in four goals in a 5-0 win over Pioneer, and she buried four more in a 5-0 win over Washington.

Doubrava scored off assists from Dea Hartz, Jen Tickes and Stacey Owens and she also scored an unassisted goal in the 5-0 nonleague win over the Mustangs.

Leigh, 4-1-1 for the year, came back with a 5-0 win over Washington thanks to four more goals by Doubrava. Tickes also scored in the Leigh win.

Leigh lost 2-0 to Saratoga in the Del Mar Tournament, but Doubrava played well enough to earn a place on the all-tournament team.
