Los Gatos Weekly-TimesNews BriefsMonte Sereno authorizes City Hall landscaping After a year of deliberation, the Monte Sereno City Council has approved a landscaping scheme at City Hall. Councilmember Joel Gambord, who initiated the landscaping proposal, says he was influenced by the recent plans for medians along Los Gatos Boulevard and planter boxes on N. Santa Cruz Avenue, as well as landscaping at Saratoga Avenue and Highway 9. "We're not out there all by ourselves spending money," Gambord said. Monte Sereno City Manager Gay Strand, who will supervise the work, says a maximum of $30,000 was authorized for the project, which will include new landscaping for the entire property, a repaired wall and a new irrigation system. Current estimates are for about $18,000. Resurfacing is delayed Resurfacing work on Los Gatos Boulevard will be delayed until the return of warmer, drier weather, according to Engineering Services Director Scott Baker. Work will continue when the weather starts warming up again, since asphalt should be laid on a dry surface at temperatures of 55 degrees or higher if it is expected to survive its 20-year lifespan. While work is suspended, town crews will perform "winterizing" by adding asphalt to create smoother transitions at intersections, driveways and crosswalks that have been the subject of complaints. Pickup is delayed Green Valley customers whose scheduled trash pickup day falls on Christmas or New Year's Day will have trash collected on the Fridays following those holidays. If the regular collection day is Friday, service will be on Saturday.
