LGUSD wants aids for special ed

The Los Gatos Union School District is seeking motivated adults interested in becoming instructional aides to work with elementary school-age students who have special needs (non-severely handicapped). Prior experience is not required. Day-to-day as well as long-term positions are available. For an application or more information, call Jennifer Hammond or Peggy Angwin at 395-6610.

Daves Avenue seeks memory book photos

Anyone with color photographs (no Polaroid-type photos) of school-related activities from Daves Avenue this year may submit them for possible use in the annual Memory Book, which will be published in May or June 1997. Memory Book advisers suggest sending duplicate photos, not originals. Drop off photos, along with a note with your name and phone number, in the school office or Memory Book slot, marked, "attention: Debbie Vosters."

CASA offers STEP parenting classes

Community Against Substance Abuse is again offering parents the opportunity to learn or improve their skills through the STEP program--Systematic Training for Effective Parenting. Joanne Rodgers leads the nine-week class, in which parents can discover realistic, effective and enjoyable ways to relate to their teenagers. Beginning Feb. 19, STEP classes will be held Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. in room L-7, part of the Los Gatos High School Library. Cost is $60 for individuals or $80 for couples, which includes a book. Registration forms will be available at the LGHS office in January. For more information, call Rodgers at 356-1858.

Fisher Middle School is on the Web

Fisher Middle School's site on the World Wide Web is now officially up and ready for the community's viewing pleasure, thanks to Steve Hum and his two student "Webmasters," Thomas Johnson and Adam Clark. As the months go by, the Web page will change and expand, announce school events and include links to other World Wide Web pages of interest to students, parents or educators. The address is http://www.rjfisher.lgusd.k12.ca.us.

San Jose Art Museum offers free admission

Elementary and middle school students whose interest in art is piqued by the overviews offered by the Art Docents of Los Gatos, Inc. should check out the San Jose Museum of Art on the last Sunday of every month. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on these "ArtSundays," museum admission is free for all children and their adult guests. The museum is located at 110 S. Market St. in downtown San Jose.

Van Meter students perform music

Fifth-graders at Van Meter School will perform a musical program in the school cafeteria Dec. 18 from 12:50 to 1:50 p.m. Students have been learning various songs and music played on the violin and song flute. Parents and friends are invited to attend. The school is located at 16445 Los Gatos Blvd.
