Cats on hockey
The Central Coast Section field hockey championship came down to the final moments of the final game.
And it was St. Francis pulling out a tight 3-2 win over Los Gatos, giving the Lancers the CCS crown.
It was no surprise to see the two area powers playing for the section championship. After all, they had dominated play all season long in the toughest hockey division in the Central Coast Section--the Mount Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
Senior mid Jenna Long of St. Francis was picked the division's most valuable player, and Kathy Lincoln of the Lancers was named coach of the year. No surprises there.
And the league champion Lancers went on to dominate the selections with Stephanie Grejtak winning the senior of the year award; Nicole Ng the sophomore of the year award; Gina DeMaestri, Tammy Shuer, Ng and Christina McGrath earning all-league first team honors; and Lindsay Harris and Tessa Kannal winning all-league second team spots.
But Los Gatos did all right.
Junior mid Jenny Dixon topped a list of seven Wildcats winning all-league honors when she was selected as the division's junior of the year.
Senior back Ashley Ogle, senior mid Lyndsay Erickson and senior forward Kim Christiansen were Cats named to the all-league first team and junior back Annie Smith, sophomore forward Alison Reyes and senior goalie Kim Pugh won spots on the all-league second team.
