Los Gatos Weekly-TimesLos Gatos girls nail seventh winBy Dick Sparrer Lori Cox can't help but be pleased. After all, her Los Gatos girls' basketball team is off to a hot start in the 1997-98 season--just her first as the squad's head coach. The Wildcats added to their early season string of victories with a 55-36 nonleague win over San Lorenzo Valley last week. The victory helped Gatos improve to 7-1 for the year. The Cats, who posted three of those seven wins on the way to a championship finish in the Oak Grove Tournament, cruised to an easy win over San Lorenzo Valley last week. Liz Coughran, a 6-foot senior forward, poured in 26 points to lead the Wildcats to the victory. Coughran buried nine buckets from the field and added eight points at the free-throw line. Trina Mills, a 6-foot-2 junior forward, supported with 10 points for the Cats, and Christy Zebb, a 6-foot senior forward, added nine points. Niki Bumbaca tossed in five points for the Wildcats, including a three-pointer. Kristin Ozawa and Royya Modir added two points apiece, and Erin Cushing hit one. The Wildcats, who were to host Leigh on Monday, will close out the nonleague season on Jan. 3 when they host Saratoga at 7 p.m.
