| A lively group of longtime patrons gathered July 14 at La Mere Michelle in Saratoga to celebrate the restaurant's 30th anniversary. By happy coincidence, the festivities fell on Bastille Day, giving rise to a red, white and blue theme. Following a champagne reception, some 65 guests sat down to a six-course meal orchestrated by Chef Marc Masek, son of owners Joseph and Michelle Masek. |

| Silicon Valley checked out the new Cypress Hotel in Cupertino July 11 at a gala opening party. The hotel, which bills itself as "luxury in the heart of Silicon Valley," is at 10050 S. DeAnza Blvd., Cupertino, and features dining at Helios restaurant. |
